No doubt first pullback after breakout is safe and best but breakout need to be quite potent so for first time let indicators go to overbought zone which shows breakout is healthy sustainable.Catch only if return is above zero line so indicators at this point will show reverse divergence with price meaning trend is strong. When stock is weak positive divergences are sold into so not reliable. So best is to catch first reverse divergence of indicator after it hits overbought zone.

Hi, there. I am studying Woodies CCI, to apply at futures from Brazil. Could you please tell me how to detrend the smoothed CCI? I use Amibroker... If possible, could you provide afl for it? I could be of some assistance, changing afl I have... Tks a lot, your article is full of logic...

Webby, I just take an exponential moving average, such as a 10 period or so, of the adaptive CCI and then subtract that moving average from the same adaptive CCI. I then just plot that result as both a black line and a histogram. Sometimes I first smooth the raw adaptive CCI with a short term moving average, such as a three or four period, just to smooth out the bumps a bit, and then subtract the moving average from that. There is a bit more lag by smoothing the raw CCI of course. Sometimes the detrended version is unclear, but at times it can help clear up a pattern, but I never use it alone. Thanks for the post. Doug

I loved this article. I managed to get the adaptive CCI formula from the John Ehlers book, and plotted that on my chart, however I am still unclear on how to create the "de-trended" adaptive indicator from that. Any advise from you would be appreciated.

Awesome stuff, Doug. Thank you for sharing. I've been through the WCCI room, and it is amazing to see what I already know about the CCI spring to life with such increased clarity using your Adaptive and smoothed versions. Thanks again.
